Mabon
- Autumn
Equinox
Sep 23
This is a time of balance between light and dark,
giving thanks for the
harvest and saying good-bye to the
strength of the sun. This is
also a good time to ready the garden for winter.
Mabon is the time of the
2nd harvest when fruits are ready
for collection. The days and nights are equal. Leaves are beginning to turn and
birds are gathering for migration. This is the Pagan Thanksgiving, a
time to appreciate and enjoy the fruits of your labors. Some suggested
activities are:
1. Work by
the sea at sunset and cast pebbles into the dying light of the water
that represent all regrets, resentments, sorrows, failures and unfinished business that you do not wish to carry forward into the
winter.
2. Take a
bowl containing equal numbers of nuts and seeds and work outdoors. Name
a success or achievement that has materialized and
eat a nut; then name a failure or loss and cast a seed into the ground.
Continue until you have eaten and shed the same number and can think of
no more; bury the rest beneath a fruit- or nut-bearing tree.
3. Sweep up
autumn leaves into a pile; jump up and down in it, expressing joy at the promise of the coming days, and
naming opportunities and all you can achieve in winter. Finally scatter
the leaves and let the good and the bad, the gains and the losses, be
carried equally on the wind.
4. Hold
an equinox party.
Prepare a
feast of fruits and vegetables, bread, cider and wine,
fruit cup, and soups.
5. Make
offerings to the land of wine, ale, mead and bread, and as you
pass around a communal cup, send individual blessings to people and
places where there is dearth
6. Select
the best of each vegetable, herb, fruit, nut, and other food you have
harvested or purchased and give it back to Mother Earth with prayers of
thanksgiving.
7. Hang
dried ears of corn around your home in appreciation of the harvest
season.
8. Do
meditations and chanting as you store away food for the Winter.
9.
Do a
thanksgiving circle, offering thanks as you face each direction: for
home, finances, and physical health (North); for gifts of knowledge
(East); for accomplishments in career and hobbies (South); for
relationships (West); and for spiritual insights and messages (Center).
10. Create a harvest
despacho and burn it during Fire Ceremony or bury it in gratitude to
Pachamama.

Labor Day
1st Monday
in Sep
Labor Day is a
United States federal holiday however the holiday originated in Canada out of labor disputes (9-Hour Movement)
in the 1870s, which resulted
in a Trade Union Act that legalized and protected union activity in
1872. In 1882,
American labor leader Peter J. McGuire witnessed one of these labor
festivals in Toronto. He
returned to New York City and organized the first American labor day on
September 5 of 1882.
In the aftermath of the 1894 Pullman Strike,
President Grover Cleveland, legislation making Labor
Day a national holiday was rushed through Congress unanimously and
signed into law 6 days after the end of the strike.
Labor Day is
celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of the summer. The
holiday is often regarded as a day of rest and parades. Forms of celebration
include picnics, barbecues, fireworks displays, water sports, and public
art events. The NFL traditionally plays their first game the Thursday
following Labor Day.

Patriot Day
Sep 11
Patriot Day occurs
on September 11, designated in memory of the 2,993
casualties in the September 11, 2001, attacks. Most Americans refer to
the day as 9/11. Initially,
the day was called the Prayer and Remembrance for the Victims of the
Terrorist Attacks on September 11, 2001. On September 4, 2002, President
Bush proclaimed
September 11, 2002 as Patriot Day. On this day, the President directs
that the American flag be flown at half-staff at individual American
homes, at the White House, and on all U.S. government buildings and
establishments, home and abroad. The President also asks Americans to
observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 A.M. (EDT), the time of
the first plane crash on September 11, 2001.

Apparently, President
Bush was not aware that the US already had a Patriots' Day:

Patriots' Day
Occurs the 3rd
Monday in April
Patriots' Day is a
civic holiday commemorating the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington
and Concord, the first battles of the American Revolutionary War. It is
observed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and state of Maine.
Observances and re-enactments of these battles occur annually at Lexington Green in Lexington, Massachusetts
and The Old North Bridge in Concord, Massachusetts. In the morning, a
mounted re-enactor retraces Paul Revere's ride,
calling out warnings the whole way. The Boston Marathon is run on
Patriots' Day every year so many Bostonians know the holiday as Marathon
Monday. The Boston Red Sox have traditionally been scheduled to play at
home in Fenway Park on Patriots' Day every year since 1959.

Cleansing Your Chakras with Water
by Alberto Villoldo
Practice this exercise
in the morning while in the shower, or in nature by a waterfall, a
stream, or the ocean. Hold your left hand at the base of your spine, and
with your right hand 3-4" above your pubic bone area, feel for your 1st
chakra. Spin the chakra counterclockwise (imagine that your body is the
face of the clock) 3-4 times, rotating your fingertips in a circle.
Rinse your fingers in the water. This washes away the sludge and toxins
that adhere to the walls of the chakra. Repeat for the 2nd chakra,
located 2" below your navel; for the 3rd chakra at your solar plexus;
for the 4th chakra at the level of your heart, in the center of your
chest; for the 5th chakra at the hollow of your throat; for the 6th
chakra at the center of your forehead; and finally for the 7th chakra at
the top of your head. Make sure you rinse your fingers between
rotations. Try to sense the dense energies, like cotton candy, of a
chakra that is congested, in contrast with the tingling, light vibration
of a clear chakra.
Now go back to your 1st
chakra, spinning it clockwise 3-4 times. Repeat for all 7 chakras,
balancing them and reestablishing their proper direction of spin. This
exercise allows each chakra to spin at its optimal frequency,
unencumbered by the sludge and stale energies that cause disease at a
subtle level. A clean chakra is able to draw in the energies of nature
to nourish your luminous energy field and maintain optimal health.
