THE ROAD
There are two
sides of a road.
On one side there is me
And on the other side is you.
I wanted to cross the road to sample the nectar
But one taste is possession.
On one
side of the road there is a heart pounding
And on the other side there is a heart running.
The sourness of the grape can wash away the love of wine.
On one
side of the road there s is a place I’ve never been
And on the same side there is you.
ARE YOU LONELY?
One last
good-bye
To the sunny city
And airports have become
As
impersonal as public toilets.
And 99 miles form L.A.
Your plane hung in the sky
Like a paper-mache mobile.
A great
steel bird
Has stolen you away
In his belly.
Up, up til
He surfaces
A gleaming swan
Upon a lake of cotton
On, on
Till he finally
Joins
with the setting sun.
I will put all my thoughts,
All my memories of us
On a plane and send them far away.
YEARS OF FEARS
People come
And people go
Leaving the shell of my body
Standing behind
Waving good-bye.
This time
I wanted to give
You something special
On the last night
Like maybe my body
But
someone else did
So you just left
With a kiss
And it always is
Easier that way anyhow.
YEARS OF TEARS
I’ve spent years
trying to isolate myself from pain
Carefully sealing every crevice
Calking every crack
But still it seeps in
After all the absence of pain
Is not painless
But the pain of loneliness
And then I found out It wasn’t the outside
Causing the pain
But the inside of me.
THE GENTLE TIMES
The gentle times
That give us some hope
It’s the
gentle times
That give us a vacation
From loneliness
It’s the gentle times with you
That make clocks and calendars cancerous
Because they want to make
The time so short
The gentle times
That make memories
Used treasures.
ILLUSIONS
I would like to
glide by
On a big bubble
The sun would shine on its
Ever clear belly and cause
Round rainbows
To shine on me.
Don’t pop by bubble
It is my illusion.
I would like to live
in a cabin
With stained glass window.
The sun would shine through them
And my life would be
All aglow in bright color.
Don’t break my windows
They are my illusion.
