PRAYER WALK
|
I n the fall of 2009 a group of 11 people came together for 5 days to walk their prayers around a mountain. The ceremony consisted of walking and sitting meditations from Zen Buddhism and Earth Medicine rituals that focused on the spirits of mountains. A great part of our days were spent in silence ceremony. Each person had prepared a prayer bundle that was made from all natural material originating from the mountain. These bundles consisted of specific prayers for self, community, and the world. The bundles were carried around the mountain 9 times in progressively closer circles. The first 3 circumambulations were on a 6.5-mile loop trail. On the last day, we ascended the summit before dawn, circling the smaller summit loop trail 3 times and ended with a mountaintop ceremony. A month later a completion ceremony was done and the prayer bundles were permanently buried on the mountain.
The following links provide
photos, commentary, and information. No photos were taken during actual ceremony
so as to respect the sacredness of the experience. Thanks for stopping by. Aho! |
